All travellers visiting Saudi Arabia for Hajj, Umrah, or seasonal work are required to submit a valid certificate of vaccination with the Meningococcal Quadrivalent ACWY vaccine.

  • The vaccine certificate must be issued:
  • No more than 3 years before arrival, and
  • At least 10 days prior to your entry into Saudi Arabia.

Why is the Meningitis Vaccine Required for Hajj and Umrah?

Each year, millions of pilgrims from around the world travel to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah. Due to the crowded conditions, there is a higher risk of infectious diseases spreading—including meningitis.
In the 2000/01 Hajj season, a major outbreak of meningitis occurred, resulting in serious health consequences. As a result, since 2002, the Meningitis ACWY vaccine has been mandatory for all pilgrims attending Hajj or Umrah.

Meningitis ACWY Vaccine Certificate

When you receive your Meningitis ACWY vaccine at Giles & Ward Pharmacy, we will provide you with an official certificate of vaccine administration.
This certificate is required for entry into Saudi Arabia for:

  • Seasonal workers
